For those of us that were able to run on Saturday we had the thrill of running in the pouring rain! Granted...if we had waited another 5 or 10 min we would have missed the rain...but there's nothing like getting completely soaked and even somewhat chilly for the sake of running - LOLOL:-)

This Wednesday we'll be talking about "Strength Training for Runners". This Saturday is July 4 - and while some will be gone enjoying a cabin, or vacation, or something - there are a few of us that will be running. We'll be meeting at the Y at 7am on Saturday, July 4!

I hope you all have a great week! I am looking foward to a 4-day work week:-) See you on Wednesday!

Becca:-)

We've all made it to Week 2 of our marathon training...some of us in better shape then others:-)

Last Wednesday we learned about the awesome benefits of foam rolling and streching. I can personally attest to the fact that using a foam roller, and a tennis ball, is probably the one thing that has kept my muscles moving for the past 10 months. For those of you that weren't there on Wednesday, PJ has sheets with the streching exercises that you can pick up this Wednesday or Saturday.

This Wednesday we will be running 3-4 miles again (based on speed) and focusing on Core Strength. We'll meet in the front of the Southdale Y at 6pm for the run...and then meet afterwards for our class. Hopefully everone is feeling better this week!!

One of my favorite authors (that writes about running) is John Bingham. I received one of his books, The Courage to Start, as a Christmas gift and I couldn't put it down. John Bingham didn't start running until he was in his 40s and he just seems to say exactly what I'm thinking in a way much better then I ever could. He writes a regular article and blog for Runners World and I thought I would share the one from this month's edition. (Click on the file below to read the story)

Have a great week everyone! We'll see you on Wednesday!

It was great to meet everyone yesterday. We all made it through our first run...only have 32 group runs left to go before the marathon:-)

How many of you are planning on being here for July 4? PJ and I were talking this morning about whether we should meet or not on the holiday - and figured we'd ask to see who's going to be here.

Also - please let us know if you have any other days you know you won't be at run club - either Wednesdays or Saturdays. Then we won't be waiting for you to arrive when you're off traveling or working or whatever else is taking you away from running for the week:-)

You can "comment" on this post to let us know.

Hey Everyone,

This is Becca - and I will be the one managing this site for the next 16 weeks. (I'm sure PJ will add stuff too...but he asked me to help 'cause he knows communication is my thing!!! :-) You'll probably learn fairly quickly that I love talk and I love to write....and I especially love to talk and write about running.

I don't hold any notions that you all want to spend the next 16 weeks just reading what I write about...so I hope you'll jump on and tell us about how your week is going. So far I haven't been able to figure out how to make it so everyone can start their own entry...so I will just start a "daily" blog entry...and people can respond as you feel like it. Hopefully I can figure out a better way to do it...if anyone has any suggestions, let me know!

I also love to read...and I've found a bunch of great articles, inspiring running stories, interesting information and more that I will probably share during the next few months.

This is going to be my first marathon...and I am beyond excited. It is something that I've wanted to do for a vry long time, but never thought it could actually happen. The thought of running 26.2 miles is probably overwhelming for some of us right now...but we've got PJ to lead us...and each other for support... and it's going to be a great summer!!!

Becca:-)
